I just came across this film about how Daniel Dembele the founder of Afrique Power, our solar partner in Bamako, Mali got started.
This film shows his first solar panel fabrication training and their first install at a school in Banco in the south(not to be confused with our school in Bancor in the north). They were originally making the panels themselves from solar cells that had been abandoned or donated, then he began buying them too. The process is not perfect and the panels are not as efficient as the commercial version imported from Europe, but they are inexpensive and made by local people who obtained a new skill and paid work.
Daniel has a big heart and we look forward to our continued partnership.
